FREMANTLE will monitor star midfielder David Mundy closely this week ahead of a critical road trip to take on Sydney at the SCG on Saturday.
Mundy, 28, was subbed out of a heavily congested battle of attrition with a gritty Essendon at Pattersons Stadium that the Dockers eventually ran away with.
A tight contest to just before half-time, the Dockers blew the game open with a seven-goal third quarter on the way to a 18.5 (113) to 9.6 (60) victory.

Mundy copped a nasty hit into the face from tough teammate Luke McPharlin in a marking contest just before the long interval and did not appear after half-time.
His injury was originally thought be be concussion but the midfielder was seen on crutches after donning the red vest.
The Dockers blew the game open with six goals to Essendon's none in a blistering 20 minutes after the resumption and Essendon's heavy possession and hard-running game started to break down with fatigue for the visitors.
Big captain Matthew Pavlich hammered on two in an unanswered run of 10 goals for the home outfit after the Bombers actually held a five-point lead 11 minutes into the second term.
The Dockers will swing brilliant on-baller Nat Fyfe straight back into action against the Swans after he served his controversial two-game suspension for a head-clash with Gold Coast follower Michael Rischitelli a fortnight ago.
Mundy must pass stringent medical assessments for lingering concussion ahead of the team departure on Thursday to be cleared to take on the Swans.
He had managed just eight possessions before being taken from the game after a down outing when the Dockers copped a 10-goal thumping from Hawthorn nine days ago, when Fyfe another gun midfielder Michael Barlow were missing.

In a bid to potentially find a marking and scoring source Bombers coach Mark Thompson sent swingman Michael Hurley forward after he had held Pavlich quiet until midway through the second term.
Brent Stanton with a first-half high of 23 possessions, sweeping half-backs Dyson Heppell and Mark Baguely 17 touches each and classy first-year on-baller Jackson Merrett (14) all rattled up big disposals for the Bombers.
