A YOUNG Irishman stabbed in the neck in Scarborough at the weekend is still fighting for his life in hospital.

The 21-year-old man was stabbed in the neck with a large carving knife on Sunday afternoon at a house in Helmsley Street.

He was rushed to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and this afternoon was still in a critical condition.

PerthNow understands the 21-year-old is originally from County Wexford in the south-eastern part of Ireland but has been living in Perth for several years.

It is understood some of his family have flown to Perth to be with him.

Police have charged a 32-year-old man over the stabbing.

Vincent Martin Crowe, of Atwell, made a brief appearance in the Perth Magistrates Court yesterday charged with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

He was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to appear in court again later this month.

Residents at the October community forum said they were too scared to go to the beach on hot days because they feared they would be assaulted.

Latest police figures show assaults in Scarborough have increased every year since 2010.

There were 136 non-aggravated sexual assaults, aggravated sexual assaults, non-aggravated assaults and aggravated assaults in Scarborough in 2012.

There were 122 such incidents in 2011 and 113 in 2010.
