SUN, surf and santa hats were all part of Christmas day celebrations at Scarborough Beach today.
Anja Cirkovic and her family got into the festive spirit by donning the decorative head gear and taking the plunge in a bid to cool off from today's expected 39 degree scorching heat.
Mrs Cirkovic said it was a family tradition to meet at Scarborough and go for a swim before before heading to lunch with relatives.
"We have been doing this for more than 20 years and it's something we have encouraged our family to continue,'' she said.
"The family meets at the beach at about 9am and we all go for a swim and enjoy ourselves for a few hours before heading home.
"It's the best place on earth.''
Surf Lifesavers are patrolling Scarborough for swimmers in distress and on the look out of sharks.
A spate of shark sightings close to shore in the past week has forced the closure of some Perth beaches.
Thousands of people are expected to cram popular beaches as the temperature starts to rise throughout the day.
Beach goers have been advised to wear a hat, apply sunscreen regularly and to seek shade as well as to drink plenty of water to help prevent deydration and heat stroke.
Perth faces a heatwave over the next six days with temperatures expected to hit 40 degrees and stay in the high 30's.
